April 4 - 15, 2018 | Gold Coast, Australia

The 2018 Commonwealth Games, officially known as the XXI Commonwealth Games will be held on the Gold Coast, Queensland between 4 and 15 April 2018. It will be the fifth time Australia has hosted the Games and the first ‘non-capital’ city in Australia to do so. GC2018 will be the largest sporting event Australia will host this decade and the biggest sporting spectacular the Gold Coast has ever seen. Over 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 nations and territories will converge on one of the world’s most scenic beach cities to compete for gold in a range of new and existing world-class venues.

Whether you’re an international sports body, an athlete, or a spectator planning to visit the Gold Coast for the Games, you’ll need a visa to enter Australia. At Ark Migration, we can provide professional advice on getting you the right visa that covers the duration and purpose of your stay.

Information for Commonwealth Games Family Members

The 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games is an Australian Government Endorsed Event (AGEE) which means there are some concessions for Commonwealth Games Family (CGF) Members.

GCF members are defined as all persons who are entitled to accreditation at the Games under the provisions of the CGF, and includes:

• The CGF executive;

• The organising committees;

• Athletes,

• CGF associations, including International Federations; and

• Commonwealth Game sponsors.

To benefit from the concessions available to CGF Members, there are a few steps that need to be undertaken:

Firstly, a CGF Member must register for accreditation with the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC). Following receipt of an application for accreditation from a GOLDOC recognised Responsible Organisation, GOLDOC will contact you regarding your visa application for Commonwealth Games participation.

Note that prequalifying and test events for the Commonwealth Games are not included in the AGEE process. So, if you are participating in a prequalifying event, such as weightlifting or shooting, and are an amateur you may be eligible for a Visitor visa.

If you are a professional sports person you maybe eligible to apply under the Invited for cultural/social event pathway of the Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408).

Alternatively, if you are planning to come to Australia as a spectator you can instead apply for a Visitor visa.
