The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) allows overseas workers or temporary workers in Australia to be sponsored for permanent positions where the employer has been unable to fill the position with local workers.

Anyone under the age of 50 who has a formal offer of employment and can prove that they have the appropriate skills and qualifications to be successful in the nominated role.

Successful visa applicants under the Employer Nomination Scheme are entitled to live, work and study in Australia as a permanent resident.

There are two stages in the visa application process:

  • Employer Nomination: To nominate a position under the ENS, employers must be actively and lawfully operating within Australia and demonstrate a commitment to training existing employees. The nominated position must be available full time for at least 3 years and relate to an occupation on the ENS List of Occupations. In addition, they will need to prove that the role is currently in demand within Australia and that it cannot be filled by local workers.
  • Visa Application: Once the employer nomination has been approved, applicants will need to demonstrate they have the skills to match the nominated position and can satisfy certain language, health and character requirements.

If the occupation requires the applicant to hold any kind of license or registration to work in Australia, they must also be eligible to hold the necessary license or registration before applying.
