The Skilled Regional Nominated Visa is a provisional four (4) year visa that offers a pathway to permanent residency to applicants who have been nominated by the government to work in regional Australia. Applications are by invitation only.

Anyone under the age of 50 who has been nominated by a participating State or Territory government.

Successful visa applicants and their accompanying family are entitled to live, work and study in a Specified Regional Area in Australia for up to four (4) years. Applicants can apply for permanent residency once they have lived for two years and worked for at least 12 months.

Applications are by invitation only. To be invited to apply, you will need to undergo a skills assessment, lodge an Expression of Interest (EOI) and meet the following requirements:

  • Be less than 50 years of age at the time of invitation to apply
  • Score at least 60 on the points test
  • Meet standard health, character and English language requirements
  • Be nominated by a participating State or Territory government
  • Nominate an occupation that is on the DIBP’s Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

There are three stages in the visa application process:

  • Skills Assessment: The first stage of the application process involves completing a skills assessment with the relevant government body. Your skills assessment enables the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) to determine if you have the required level of skill in your chosen occupation to work in Australia.
  • Expression of Interest: Once you have received a positive skills assessment, you will need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect.
  • Visa Application: Once you have been issued an invitation to apply (ITA), you can continue to the DIBP stage of the application, where you can submit your completed application for approval by DIBP.
