The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) allows employers in regional Australia to sponsor skilled workers for permanent residency.


Anyone under the age of 45 who has been nominated for a role by an approved employer and have the skills to successfully work in the role in regional Australia. Health checks and other standard processes must be met, as well as having a good standard of English.


Successful visa applicants under the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) are entitled to live, work and study in Australia as a permanent resident.


There are three stages in the visa application process:

  • Certification of Employer Nomination: The employer must to be able to demonstrate to a regional certifying authority that the nominated position is available full time for at least 2 consecutive years and cannot be filled by local workers.
  • Employer Nomination Assessment: The relevant Department Business Centre needs to be satisfied that the employer’s nomination has been certified.
  • Visa Application: Applicants will need a formal offer of employment and must prove that they have appropriate skills and qualifications to be successful in their nominated role and can satisfy certain language, health and character requirements.
